Jess and I are running away to Europe.. but we will be back in 6 months so don't miss us too much.
As mature adults we are more than capable of budgeting and planning accommodation for the whole trip, however, we decided to wing it and go without much of a plan. Why? we will never know! But with Hamish and Andy as our role models how can we possibly go wrong?
We hope you enjoy seeing the pictures that we post, reading about the crazy adventures we have and snickering at our misfortunes that we will encounter along the way. It is a big step in our lives and a journey that will help us discover the true meaning of being independent. Don't worry about us too much though, I am confident that Jess will be able to take great care of us both.

Arrivo a Genova

Yesterday afternoon we travelled to Genova by train. When we boarded we were more excited about the train ride than about actually visiting Genova. It was just like we were aboard the Hogwarts Express! It was decked out with cabins AND bag racks. Just like in the movies, so exciting! Many Harry Potter lines were quoted that train ride.

It was a beautifully scenic train ride along the coast.

When we hit Genova we found our hostel, Hostel Manéna, where we were warmly welcomed by one of the receptionists who showed us the best places to go and was a great help. After dumping our bags we went straight out to find dinner. We dined in a very fancy Italian restaurant that did not have pizza. Pffft and they call themselves Italian.

After dinner we climbed to the top of Belvedere Montaldo which overlooks the city of Genova.
That one extra bright light is the lighthouse that sits on the port.

Since arriving in Genova we have discovered that our few French phrases are of no use to us in this country they call Italy - we are going to have to start pretending to understand Italian. 'Si si a la pizza por fa vour señor a la spaghetti bolognase. Arivaderchi señorita della pesto... Prego!' This phrase loosely translates to 'I've got not clue how to speak Italian (or spell for that matter)' (very loose translation).

We retired to bed early last night (11pm) and were lulled into a peaceful sleep by the man snoring rather loudly in the bed across the room from us. Bellissimo!

Love Jaz and Jess

  1. Just be careful who you say "Si" to in Italy *doesn't that mean yes?" - and watch out for those pinches :)))) Glad you enjoyed the train ride - does look a bit like the Hogwarts Express - I love train travel..... That's what comes of growing up beside a railway line (with my pet Dinosaur of course). Genova looks just a tiny bit bigger than that other sweet little town. Glad the lady at the hostel is nice. Guess they are used to having so many young folk from different countries - but who could resist your two smiling faces. Hope you find a good pizza soon. Much love to you both. Grandmaaa xoxoxo
